Lane 2 · The Agent Route
Give your manuscript its best shot at traditional publishing.
We prepare and position your manuscript, query and synopsis so it lands in front of the right literary agents, looking its most professional.
We prepare and position. Agents decide.
Honest from the start
What this lane is, and what it isn't
Getting this framing right matters. We're confident in the work we do; we're also honest about where our part ends and the agent's begins.
What OW does
Prepare & position your manuscript
- Make your manuscript read clean and professional
- Write a compelling query letter and synopsis
- Research and match agents to your genre and market
- Give you a clear submission plan and tracker
What OW can't do
Guarantee representation
- Agents make their own decisions, no one can promise a "yes"
- We don't pay agents or buy access to them
- We can't set the timeline agents respond on
What we can do is give your manuscript its strongest, most professional shot, and that honesty is exactly why authors trust us with it.
What's included

The deliverables
- Manuscript assessment & polish, an honest read on where it stands, and the editing to get it submission-ready.
- Query letter writing, the single most important document in your submission, written to grab the right agent's attention.
- Synopsis writing, a clear, professional synopsis that shows agents your whole story arc.
- Agent research & matching, a targeted list of agents who actually represent your genre and market, not a scattergun.
- Submission plan & tracker, a batched plan and a tracker so you always know who's been queried and where each stands.
Who it's for
Authors aiming at the traditional route
Set on traditional
You want a traditional publisher
Your goal is a book deal through a literary agent, and you want your manuscript and submission materials to be as strong as they can possibly be before you approach anyone.
Trying agents first
You want to try agents before self-publishing
You'd like to give the agent route a real, well-prepared attempt, knowing that if it doesn't land, your polished manuscript is ready to self-publish with us instead.
How it actually works
How agent submissions really go
No hype, just the honest picture, so you go in with realistic expectations and the patience the process rewards.
Prepare
Manuscript polished; query and synopsis written.
Target
Right-fit agents researched and matched to your genre.
Submit in batches
Queried in waves, so you can refine as you learn.
Wait & respond
Agents reply on their own timelines, weeks to months.
Offers or next steps
Interest & requests, or we regroup and try again.
The honest reality: agent submissions take time and rejection is normal, even for excellent books. Responses can take weeks or months, and many strong manuscripts are turned down simply because an agent's list is full or the fit isn't right. That's exactly why a strong query and precise, right-fit targeting matter so much: they're the parts you can actually control, and they're the parts we handle for you.
If the agent route doesn't land
Your manuscript is already polished and submission-ready, which means it's ready to self-publish with us the moment you decide to. Nothing you invest here is wasted.
Good questions
Agent Route FAQ
Can you guarantee an agent will sign me?
No, and anyone who promises that isn't being straight with you. Agents make their own decisions. What we guarantee is that your manuscript, query and synopsis will be as strong and professional as possible, and that you'll be targeting the right agents. That's the part that's within anyone's control, and it's the part we handle.
Which genres and types of book do you work with?
We work across fiction and non-fiction, novels, memoir, non-fiction, children's and more. Because agents specialise by category, matching your genre to the right agents is a core part of the service. At your consultation we'll also be honest about how strong the agent market currently is for your specific kind of book.
Does my manuscript need to be finished first?
For fiction, yes, agents want a complete, polished manuscript before they'll consider it. For non-fiction, you can often approach agents with a strong proposal and sample chapters rather than a finished book. We'll tell you which applies to your project and get the right materials ready.
Do you write the query letter and synopsis for me?
Yes. The query letter and synopsis are the documents that decide whether an agent reads your pages at all, so we write them for you, crafted to your book, your genre and the specific agents you're approaching.
Do you submit to agents for me, or do I?
We prepare everything, your query letter, synopsis, a targeted agent list and a clear submission plan with a tracker. Agents generally prefer to hear from the author directly, so you send the queries using the plan and materials we've built, and the tracker keeps every submission organised so nothing slips through the cracks.
How do you choose which agents to approach?
We research agents who actively represent your genre and market, and build a right-fit, targeted list, not a mass mailout. Submitting the right book to the right agent is far more effective than submitting to everyone.
How is the Agent Route priced?
It's a one-time service, offered as a package or per deliverable, so you can take the full preparation-and-targeting package, or just a single piece like a query-letter polish. Exact figures live on the Pricing page, and we'll confirm a quote for your specific needs at your consultation.
How long does the process take?
It varies. Preparing your materials is quick; hearing back from agents is not, responses can take weeks or months, and submissions usually go out in batches over time. We set realistic expectations up front so the wait doesn't catch you off guard.
I've already been rejected by agents, can you still help?
Often, yes. We can reassess your manuscript and materials with fresh eyes, sharpen the query and synopsis, and re-target agents who are a better fit. Rejection frequently comes down to fixable things, a weak query or wrong-fit targeting, and those are exactly what we work on.
What happens if an agent offers to represent me?
That's the goal. From there, the agent represents you and guides you toward a publishing deal, they take the lead. Our part is getting you to that offer looking as professional and prepared as possible.
What happens if no agent says yes?
Then you still have a polished, submission-ready manuscript, and you can self-publish it with us whenever you're ready. Many authors try the agent route first, then move to self-publishing with the same manuscript. Nothing is lost.
